A Successful Peer Leader is someone who:

  • Is able to commit to attending all four full days of training;
  • Is an adult with a chronic health condition;
  • Has access to transportation in order to reliably arrive on time for all workshops;
  • Is prepared to facilitate a workshop starting in March 2017;
  • Is comfortable with the idea of public speaking or facilitating groups;
  • Is willing and interested to follow a structured and set curriculum in order to ensure that the program is followed in the correct way;
  • Practices healthy behaviors in his/her own life.

The people who make the best peer leaders are those successfully living with a chronic condition. They have their good days and their bad days but in general get on with life and lead interesting and productive lives.

Priority Consideration will be given to the following individuals:

  • Is willing to teach the workshop in areas other than your own neighborhood or township;
  • Men (due to the fact that men are underserved by this project; Stanford University requires that men represent one-third of all peer leaders).
  • Individuals who match the demographic characteristics of the communities where the workshops are being offered;
  • An individual who has already graduated from the Chronic Disease Self-Management workshop as a participant.
